WHAT DOES YOUR REALTOR KNOW?

Lake levels, bait shops and contractors.

Three separate subject matters but all tied together when considering a cottage purchase and the advantages of
using a local realtor.

Most people purchased their urban home with the help of a realtor.
And similar to many professions like doctors, lawyers and mechanics, familiarity and a trust level mean you generally turn to them again and again.

So far so good.

Until it comes time to purchase a recreational property hours away from you and your city realtors' reach.

While we don't suggest you rule out your city realtor completely, you should ask yourself a few important questions.

Will a city realtor have extensive knowledge with:

  • comparable pricing
  • market conditions and activity
  • septic tanks
  • lake levels and potential ice damage
  • recreational opportunities (snowmobile trails, hiking paths, kayak routes)
  • wells and drinking water
  • access roads
  • municipal by-laws and building restrictions
  • reputable carpenters, plumbers, landscapers
  • digital connectivity (cell phones, high speed internet, satellite tv)
  • good fishing spots

Knowledgeable local realtors live and breathe country air.
They also have excellent working knowledge of all of the above.

And if your city realtor can't assist you, you can always ask for a referral to a local cottage country realtor.
